Investigations: bottom problems or clarify design routes
Many businesses find that they need specialist services that are bespoke. They need the services of capable engineers and product design specialists that, because whatever the design requirement is relatively unique, are not easy to find. The requirements are usually tightly coupled with the company’s core business.
The EM has a unique combination of industrial experience that permits it to offer services that assist with product development that are not easy to find.

The following bullet pointed list gives examples so that you can see the kind of useful work the EM has done that might be considered somewhat off-piste for product development consultancies:
- Six sigma implementation of SPC for both a medical company and an oil and gas company.
- Implementation of Bresenham algorithm to cut curves and no regular shapes – derivation of maths and implementation via CNC machine.
- Accurate modelling of patient gas flows in anaesthesia. Used to optimise and make lean production of anaesthetic ventilators.
- Optimal welding conditions for an LVDT transducer that had two grades of stainless steel in its core that were joined. Magnetic properties were being lost during welding. Resolved.
- Design of UVC optics for a medical product such that optical power densities on non-planar targets could be predicted.
- Internal compliance (source compliance) and internal resistance for complete anaesthetic system circuits. Open/closed circuit modelling and compensation for the same
